I have had fillings, cleanings, and crowns. I give Dr. Mellert's colleague Dr. Steve Brown the exact same rating. The most important thing is that I trust these doctors to recommend conservative treatment on my teeth. They do not recommend excessive or unnecessary treatments. I changed my insurance to a PPO just to stay with these dentists. My teeth have been cleaned well-nigh perfectly each time. I have never had streaks on the back sides of my teeth. I feel like a princess when I leave. I have sensitive molars, and they have written in my chart and remember every time to give me a topical anesthetic each time I have my teeth cleaned. A picture of each patient is kept in the chart. One time I was getting my teeth cleaned and said hi to the doctor with my goggles and what-not on. He said hi back, then walked to my chart and found out who I was and then said, oh hi and asked me some questions about how I was doing. I felt like not every doctor would have taken the time to do that. I have never had a negative experience with the front desk staff (very warm and personable), the nurses (always great teeth cleanings, or the doctors (kind, explain procedures and options) There are head phones / TV monitors for each chair.

I've had such treatments as repairing cracked teeth with crowns, very thorough examinations and cleaning, and more. I'd feel totally confident about having Dr. Mellert perform any treatment for me. Virtually everything he's done has been totally successful for me, with never any unexpected additional treatment required. There has never been any pain whatsoever. The cost was actually very low as it seemed to me, even though the ratings above would not let me check the "extremely cheap" circle because I gave a health spa rating. The facilities seem to me totally modern, clean, well-equipped with up-to-date technology, and very comfortable. I have actually received from Dr. Mellert and his staff insurance help beyond the call of duty, and as a result have realized significant savings as his patient. He goes out of his way to to explain procedures and answer all questions thoroughly. I work in health care and I only go to doctors who are recommended to me by other doctors. It's important to network for the best care you can get. Take this website for instance. It's good to get recommendations from other people when considering a dentist. Although I have dental insurance I was nervous about choosing a dentist on my plan. I did not know any of them on the list. My friend told me about Dr. Mellert.

I am in the process of spending my own money (thousands of dollars) for the dental care I need. Whatever I spend now will prevent further problems. Recently I have had 5 crowns and 4 fillings by Dr. Mellert. Three years ago he saved me from a root canal which 90% of other dentists would have done. I'm happy to spend my money at Dr. Mellert's office because he is an EXPERT dentist and does not cut corners when working on my teeth. He seems to do everything right the first time. In 1985 I started with gum surgery with the older doctor. Then Dr. Mellert took over and I have had many crowns done, a root canal, general fillings, etc. Dr. Mellert is one of the best dentists ever. He is very efficient and you hardly feel his novacaine shots. I have NEVER had any problems with temporary crowns or permanent crowns. He did a literally pain free root canal in less than 1/2 hour. I would and have recommended him to friends, he is the best. I am moving to Palm Desert but will still come up to Torrance for any dental work.

I had a full upper plate put in and partial on the bottom teeth and had fillings and cleaning done with wonderful success. I have been comfortable with Dr Mellert and his staff from the day I walked into his office five years ago. Dr. James Mellert has given me 3 crowns and one replacement crown. He also performed a gum graft on me last summer. I am one of his pickiest patients and like the way that he and the staff treat me. I feel like a valued patient and have recommended several people to him. I tell people that I could make or break their business because I have high standards and will pass on my opinion about how I was treated to others. One of my coworkers says that if someone passes my inspection that she will hire or go to that person and does not need to consult anyone else.

The office has a pleasant atmosphere and Cindy, the receptionist, and Lynette, who does the billing are very personable. On your way out, grab a tube of SPF 15 spearmint lip balm. Dr. Mellert is amazing. He is so skilled in his dentistry, I would never trust my teeth to anyone else. I, too, was a complete dental chicken mainly due to my lack of care for my teeth. I had been traumatized by a dentist when I was a child and never wanted to step foot in another dental office again, especially one that had "that awful dentist office smell." My fear of pain combined with my fear of being laughed at by a dentist kept me from making the first step. When I first moved to the South Bay, my teeth were in poor condition. My previous dentist had not done a good job at scheduling me for regular cleanings or educating me in proper dental care. My gums had deep pockets, and I had several cavities. The first Torrance dentist that I went to wanted to schedule me for numerous procedures and a total of ten appointments. I found Dr. Mellert through a service. I wanted a second opinion after a dentist in Hermosa Beach tried to convince me I needed caps on my front teeth and complete rehab for molars top and bottom. It amounted to thousands of dollars of work. This evaluation reduced me to tears.

The catch: I am religious about taking care of my teeth. My previous dentist of 20 years from another state did not believe any of the work recommended would be necessary. And I had seen him within 6 months of moving to California.

I am 59 years old and I have had a number of dentists over the years. Dr. Mellert and his staff are at the top of my list. I had several issues where Dr. Mellert resolved them beyond my expectations. One was a gum issue where I thought for sure he was going to send me to a gum specialist but he quickly corrected my problem. Another issue was a bridge that was pressing on my gum (installed by another dentist years before) where instead of requiring a new bridge he was able to repair my bridge at a much lower cost. The other dentist (Dr. Brown) at the office that does most of the fillings is also excellent. You hardly know you are having it done (maybe a little exaggerated on that point).

We then (my husband and I) started visiting Dr. James Mellert for our own dental needs. My husband underwent gum reconstruction and crown treatment with Dr. Mellert and he was totally satisfied with his great work and the results. In my case, I have seen Dr. Mellert for crown work as well and again, he has done a wonderful job. My husband and I feel Dr. Mellert is highly professional, and a caring and sensitive doctor who listens to the patients. I have been a dental patient of Dr. Mellert's for about 20 years and have been very satisfied with his services.

I had very poor oral hygene habits when I first started seeing Dr. Mellert, so I needed quite a bit of work, including 2 root canals and 3-4 crowns. One of the root canals was a repeat procedure due to what I perceived as a sloppy job by my prior Dentist. There have been no repeat problems with any of the teeth that received major treatments by Dr. Mellert. Due to his constant (but gentle) proddings I have improved my hygene habits and have now gone about 4 years without any major problems. The office staff is also remarkably stable and friendly and have always taken care of scheduling and insurance related issues without a hitch.

I would recommend Dr. Mellert and his staff without hesitation.

Dr. Mellert has been a miracle worker in a couple of cases for me. In each case I had a tooth that was extremely boarder-line on if it could be saved or not (the reasons being a separate story), but Dr. Mellert went the extra mile. He was creative and precise in taking all the time needed for the very detailed work to make sure I kept my tooth. Not only that, but with the tooth being towards the front, he also made sure that the resulting crown was a perfect match in color/shade to the other nearby teeth. AND throughout all of this he was friendly and professional, explaining what he was doing at different stages and why, and always making sure I was as comfortable as possible. During every visit over the years his entire staff has been wonderful, friendly, knowledgable and helpful, and the office itself is bright & cheerful, and spotless. Dr. Mellert is definately my #1 recommendation to anyone who asks if I know of a good dentist!

Dr. Mellert's practice is first class all the way from the reception area to the treatment rooms. The office staff are professional, courteous and very quickly make you feel at ease.

Dr. Mellert has excellent rapport--he always tells you what the situation is, what are the various treatment options, always takes the time to answer all questions.

During actual treatment he tells you what he is doing in a calm and professional manner.

I keep my eyes open and like to look at the dexterity of his hands. The treatment room staff are well-trained and everyone works as a team.

The front office staff are very helpful in setting up future appointments and always call to remind you a few days in advance

I have been seeing Dr. Mellert since he started his practice. My three children saw his father till the oldest one was 21. I had been without dental care for several years due to past unpleasant experiences. I had a lot of work done on my teeth over the years by Dr Mellert.. I have had eleven crowns and one root canal and have never needed to have them replaced. I never fear going to have work done anymore. Dr. Mellert has a tender heart for those who have concerns and I have always left feeling I got the best care possible. He has always worked with my insurance carrier and has gotten approval before doing work. I always know what my plan will pay and what my obligation is.

His staff are always welcoming and helpful. Reminder calls and appointment cards are sent out when due. Everyone seems to enjoy their work at the office. I would reccomend anyone that is seeking a good dentist and a caring staff.
