Need Dentist / Specialist: Yes
Provide Cost Estimate: No
X-rays Available: Yes
Case Summary
Filling Crown Porcelain Veneers / Crowns
Teeth: 18
Last Full Mouth X-Ray: 5/10/09
Last Cleaning: 5/10/09
Case Description
My dentist did a MO on #18 leaving me unable to chew on my left side with concern over chewing stresses. Had second opinion-states exposed dentin on #18 recommended traditional crown to replace or flouride treatments for sensitivity and wait. Is CEREC appropriate as an onlay in this situation? I love the idea of keeping as much tooth structure and single visit work, but have read about submargination, margin wear, post op sensitivity and restoration fracture. I am assuming that CEREC is an art form and in more capable hands could possibly last longer? Please advise-my original dentist drilled my tooth down and didn't approximate my bite correctly-there is missing occlusion verified by my second opinion but I am hesitant to jump into a crown unless necessary because of my ex-dentists shoddy work. thanks in advance

When selecting a new doctor, consider the following:
  • Quality of Explanations: Compare dentist replies. Give preference to well-reasoned, detail-oriented, transparent explanations.
  • Experience & Qualifications: If a dentist has a practice listing, check their practice description, special training, typical office procedures and before & after case photographs.
  • Other Patients' Freedback: If a dentist has reviews, read other patients' reviews. The more reviews they have, the more likely it is that other patients' feeback is accurate.
  • Treatment Costs: Dental procedure costs vary from practice to practice and depend on a variety of factors. Because quality of patient care and treatment results vary from practice to practice most dentists will not "price-match" treatment fees of others.

Well the answer lies in how big the current filling is. Cerec is fine but as a patient you should know that they do fracture on occasion and that the prep or hole in ur tooth will get even larger with an inlay which is what the Cerec makes. If the hole is already XL then a full crown is probably ur best bet..They are stronger and more capable of withstanding the biting forces of you back teeth. Dr Thomas
