Case Description
I had a frenectomy done to remove some of the frenulum and excess gum tissue between my top front two teeth. The doctor was an oral-maxillofacial surgeon and removed the papilla that was there as well (i'm not sure why). Anyway, now I have a empty triangular space in between my teeth. Will the gum regenerate this papilla or will I need to get some work done by a periodontist such as a gum graft?

When selecting a new doctor, consider the following:
Quality of Explanations: Compare dentist replies. Give preference to well-reasoned, detail-oriented, transparent explanations.
Experience & Qualifications: If a dentist has a practice listing, check their practice description,
special training, typical office procedures and before & after case photographs.
Other Patients' Freedback: If a dentist has reviews, read other patients' reviews. The more
reviews they have, the more likely it is that other patients' feeback is accurate.
Treatment Costs: Dental procedure costs vary from practice to practice and depend on a variety of factors.
Because quality of patient care and treatment results vary from practice to practice most dentists will not "price-match" treatment fees of others.

You will need to see a periodontist. It may not be possible to regenerate this tissue even in the hands of a gifted surgeon. I would get a consultation appointment to see your options. Dr. Miles Madison in Beverly Hills would be an excellent choice. His number is: 310-553-2940 his website is: BeverlyHillsPerio.comHope this helps,-Tom Stelmach, DDS

There are too many unknown factors to answer your question with an A or B answer. If you reply to this email with a photo of the space we can show it to the doctor and better answer your question. Dentistador@gmail.com

I honestly think you should see a periodontist. However, it is very hard to re -grow a papilla. Some cases even need ortho intervention, but to be simple, I believe veneers would do the job. You want to see the periodontist ( and an honest one) so they can tell you if it is best to persue perio treatment or go back to your general dentist for restorative work i.e. ,veneers.Hope this helpsAna Niehoff dds

It''''s unlikely the OMFS would remove the papilla during a frenectomy, especially in such a highly esthetic zone. I''''m not sure what you mean by the "excess gum tissue" that the surgeon removed. If you noticed the black triangle appear or enlarge after the surgery, my guess is that the interdental papilla shrank as the area healed, but there may be other possible explanations. I would adise you to speak with a periodontist in the area for a consult and determine what is the best course of action at this point. Best of luck!
