Need Dentist / Specialist: Yes
Provide Cost Estimate: Yes
X-rays Available: Yes
Case Summary
Braces / Invisilign
Teeth:
Last Full Mouth X-Ray: aug 2007
Last Cleaning: aug 2007
Case Description
My story is a bit complicated:

I got my braces on in 2005 in Riverside, CA but moved to Los Angeles in late 2006. Due to my relocation, I had to change Orthodontists but I ended up moving to Mexico.

I have not had any treatment since late 2006 until August 2007[they just took x-rays again and did a new molding and removed wires...brackets are still on].

However, I had to relocate to Mexico again and that is as far as that treatment went. [I am back permanently from Mexico and will not be relocating any further]

I requested to get my brackets removed @ the "New" orthodontist [in Torrance, CA] but said that I would have to go BACK to my original Orthodontist to do so. Naturally Riverside is about an hour and a half away and I would like to find someone closer.

The reason i want to remove the brackets is because I want to start my treatment over, but want to do it with Invisalign. I have insurance coverage [Delta Dental], and would like to remove the brackets as soon as possible.

It is not cosmetically appealing to have just the brackets on [especially without wires, and I am sure my teeth are shifting without them as well], and would like to remove them to start over.

IDEALLY, I would want to get invisalign, but if not possible, I just want to find a good orthodontist that will continue my treatment...even if it's just regular braces.

I have my moldings as well as all my x-rays and records.

Please advise!

When selecting a new doctor, consider the following:
  • Quality of Explanations: Compare dentist replies. Give preference to well-reasoned, detail-oriented, transparent explanations.
  • Experience & Qualifications: If a dentist has a practice listing, check their practice description, special training, typical office procedures and before & after case photographs.
  • Other Patients' Freedback: If a dentist has reviews, read other patients' reviews. The more reviews they have, the more likely it is that other patients' feeback is accurate.
  • Treatment Costs: Dental procedure costs vary from practice to practice and depend on a variety of factors. Because quality of patient care and treatment results vary from practice to practice most dentists will not "price-match" treatment fees of others.

These situations are tough. Most Orthodntists are reluctant to do this without a release from the original orthodontist and verbal conversation with them due to Liability. Orthodontic treatment can vary greatly and you are technically still under treatment. Should something happen, it raises a question on who is to blame. Most orthodontists do not want to go to bed with some other dr because of the differences in treatment. In today''''s litigious society this is a very important concern.

Furthermore, patients that request these type of things usually owe payment to the orthodontist and use Invisalign as an excuse to get the brackets off.
